Seven volumes bound in two. Reprint of the first editions which were issued over the period 1938-1948 by Quaritch for Knoedler (Chamberlin 1574; Riggs, p. xxviii). The core of this monumental work is Hind's compilation of the collection of early Italian engravings in the British Museum. It was expanded over the years to make this one of the most exhaustive reference sources on fifteenth century Italian engraving. Biographical and bibliographical information on each artist is followed by a list of his work. Each text volume contains a concordance to Bartsch, Passavant and the British Museum catalogue, and an index of artists and subjects. 916 illustrations.
