A bilingual (German-English) limited edition inspired by Rilke's poem ""Orpheus. Eurydice. Hermes,"" based on Stephen Mitchell's classic translation. It is conceived and designed by Ellen Kozak. The watercolors in the book were painted from the observed landscape of the Hudson River during the summer of 1994 in New York's Hudson River valley. Dore Ashton contributed a Foreword: ""This is the Orpheus whose work will never be complete, for as he says in one of the sonnets, Orpheus 'comes and goes'.... All these turnings come together in the paintings, which are in a true sense translations.... The painter has seized in strokes, colores--the painting's thought--the spirit of the poem."" "--Stephen Mitchell, Translator.
