HAMMETT, DASHIELL. Red Harvest. Alfred A. Knopf, New York: 1929. First Edition (Unstated). h Hardcover, no dustjacket. Good condition considering its age. Bright red cloth binding with bumped corners and very light edgewear. The cover includes a scull and crossbones on front and decorative spine. The back cover has some very light scuffing or scratching but nothing to take notice or mar the appreciation of this very attractive copy of a beautiful book. The former owner's inked inscription on the front free endpaper is something to treasure. "George Seavers 'owner' leave your hands off." One of Hammett's masterpieces, this is the most vivid and realistic picture of gang war ever written--and one of the most exciting of all suspense novels. An operative in a detective agency is summoned to the grim mining town of Personville -- customarily referred to as Poisonville and corrupt from top to bottom. The Op has been summoned by town boss Elihu Wilson to pin the murder of his son on a rival gang.
