GREEN, GERALD. The Lotus Eaters. Scribner's, NY: 1959. First Edition. h Hardcover with dustjacket and mylar protective covering. Library discard. Good condition but somewhat worn. In this big teamng novel the garish opulence and gold-plated chicanery of a Florida resort are combined and contrasted with the excitement of archaeologists digging in search of an ancient world. Gerald Green's two chief characters vividly signify the contrast: the Bronx boy, one-time football hero and ex-Marine Tom Sorrento who beildered his family by becoming an anthropologist; Ira deKay, the PR man and promoter with always a joke and a deal working - Ira the pleasure merchant. The encounter between these two men creates the rich substance of theme and story - made tense, ironic and poignant by the fact that they love the same woman. Price:
