The study starts with an historical overview of the changing situation of the Czech peasant and continues with constant attention throughout to the time dimension. Much of what is described, of course, is part of a traditional pattern that has been greatly changed since World War II and the subsequent collectivization of lands and agricultural production. The authors give ua a sense of these changes by constantly moving back and forth among the present, the immediate past, and the more distant past, as well as providing one chapter on the socialist cooperative.
