The parachutists from Palestine who strove to breach the fortress of Nazi-dominated Europe, the underground workers cautiously seeking from their beach-head in neutral Turkey to reach the Jews behind the ghetto walls, and the ghetto fighters themselves, are closely-knit figures in the colossal drama the author describes.
