Though accounts of pageantry offer an important source for social as well as cultural history, very little attention has been paid to the information that pageants for a single town or period have to offer about civic organization and pride, the growth of wealth, or the reflection of taste. Valued primarily for a study of pageantry, this work also helps to fill in a colorful chapter in the history of Anglo-French relations, and it adds a new work to the canon of no less great a figure in French literature than Pierre Gringore.
