162 JACKSON, NEIL. Pierre Koenig: A View From The Archive.
Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles: 2018. h Hardcover with dustjacket. Brand new book.
A heavily illustrated tribute to Los Angeles architect Pierre Koenig, a key figure of the Los Angeles Modernist movementIn this book, Neil Jackson presents a vibrant profile of Los Angeles architect Pierre Koenig, who Time Magazine said lived long enough to become "cool twice." From the influences of Koenig's youth in San Francisco and his military service during World War II to the Case Study Houses and his later award-laden years, Jackson's study plots the evolution of Koenig's oeuvre against the backdrop of Los Angeles. The book is anchored by Jackson's exciting discoveries in Koenig's archive at the Getty Research Institute. Drawings, photographs, diaries, building contracts and more—many of which are being published for the first time—provide an expanded understanding of Koenig and additional context for his architectural achievements. An examination of Koenig's Case Study Houses shows how he presciently embraced sustainable, ecologically responsible design. A new account of the Chemehuevi housing project in Havasu Lake, California, demonstrates the special role that teaching played in the development of his architecture. Over his fifty-year career, Koenig not only designed iconic houses but also directed their restoration, ensuring that his work could be seen and appreciated by future admirers of midcentury Los Angeles. 320 pages, 10 ķ 11 inches, 136 color and 115 black-and-white illustrations, hardcover. Neil Jackson holds the Charles Reilly Chair of Architecture at the University of Liverpool and is president of the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain. This present book, building on his earlier writings on Pierre Koenig, developed from a Guest Scholar residency at the Getty Research Institute in 2013.

165 JACQUES SBRIGLIO; BAJAC, QUENTIN & ANDRIEUX, BÉATRICE (INTRODUCTIONS); RICHARD, MICHEL (PREFACE). Le Corbusier & Lucien Herv: A Dialogue Between Architect And Photographer.
Getty Publications, Los Angeles: 2011. h Hardcover with dustjacket. Brand new book.
In 1949, the photographer Lucien Herv (1910-2007) took a picture of an innovative apartment building in Marseille, France, and sent it to the building's architect, Le Corbusier (1887-1965). Le Corbusier responded by asking Herv to become his official photographer. This book recounts the collaboration between these groundbreaking Modernists. The author takes the reader on a tour of sixteen of Le Corbusier's most iconic buildings using Herv's edited sheets of contact prints as visual guides. These sheets, which became an effective tool in the collaborative dissemination of Le Corbusier's work, capture Herv's dynamic perspectives and dramatic use of light. His sequencing of the individual prints creates an exhilarating rhythm that powerfully showcases the architect's novel forms and materials. Jacques Sbriglio is an architect and professor of architectural theory and projects at L'École nationale superieure d'architecture de Marseille-Luminy. Quentin Bajac is head of the photography department at the Muse national d'art moderne, Centre Pompidou, in Paris, and author of The Invention of Photography (Thames & Hudson/Abrams, 2002). Batrice Andrieux is a freelance curator who has organized several exhibitions of Herv's photographs in France. Michel Richard is director of the Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris.

Hirmer Verlag, Munchen: 2012. h Hardcover with dustjacket. Brand new book.
For more than forty years, Munich-based landscape architect Peter Kluska has been guided by the idea of creating immersive experiences through the skillful manipulation of space, and his firm's designs have been the recipients of critical praise and prestigious awards in the field. With Urban Landscape, Kluska draws on his considerable expertise to present a survey of international urban design.
